Wanting to know about Chera kingdom then it is a vast history. For this is considered to be one of the most ancient kingdom in southern India. The kingdom was extended for a long period of time in coalition with the Cholas and the Pandyas. It is from the Sangam Age or say 3rd century BC to 3rd century AD when the Chera continued to enjoy their kingdom.
As far as Cheras are concerned, Vanji (the present Kerala) was its flourishing capital. I call it as flourishing as this Kingdom traded with most parts of the world. If you don't know, here are some more facts about Chera Kingdom:
• Even with the Romans, Cheras had trade culture
• They became more important when they were under Senguttuvan or the Red Chera
• Even Jainism religion flourished under them
