From ages India was known for joint families and its values but these days it becomes difficult to find such system. As a result of this we find more and more nuclear families in which husband don't have time for wife and parents find hard to take care of their children.
Indian family system may be considered as the best at the same time they can lead to many other consequences like dominance, misunderstanding, lack of privacy and bitter relationship. In an Indian family system one can live their life only after they cross 50. Young people in India are led to stumble between old people’s highly cruel and impossible ideas and keeping with new times. May be after 20 years this might change. But we learn to share and sacrifice a lot in Indian family system with which I always fall in love.
In India, it was a joint family system that was followed for a long time due to strong traditional values and also because they found they can manage their family better if they stayed together. In joint family system one will find grand parents, parents, children, grand children living under a common roof. But when people started migrating to cities to earn more and to avail more opportunities, started the trend of nuclear families.
In India we have two types of family systems nuclear family and joint family. However, the joint family system was the most common family system until today when there are a lot of nuclear families too. A joint family usually comprise of grand parents and their sons along with their sons’ wives and children. Almost 10-15 members make a joint family which can be even more. The grand father remains the head of the family when alive and after his demise the eldest son takes over the family decisions. The household chores are divided among the wives in the families and sometimes even the daughters give a helping hand to their mothers and aunts. There are lots of advantages and disadvantages of a joint family system and sometimes couples find that they are not able to find enough time for themselves in a joint family. Depending on job opportunities many Indians have opted for nuclear family which consists of a couple and their children. But in the past, only joint families prevailed in India.
