You might have got the full form for this AMC i.e. Asset Management Company and to speak further about this term it simply means the mutual fund provider or the company. In India by the regulations of SEBI the AMC of a mutual fund should have minimum requirements and is to be approved by SEBI. The AMC purchases stock, bond etc and sells units of fund to investors. The company manages the common portfolio of all investors where the assets of investors including cash, shares etc is placed. These are the assets of the investors.

Asset management in mutual fund is rightly used because in mutual fund the contribution of many customers is held in a common corpus and using these corpus assets like shares, debentures are purchased. The yield on the assets is returned to the customers and the company that manages these assets of the customers also charges some money for this management job.
